In 1910 Gustavo Trifari founded Trifari, an accessories brand with a rich history that includes many firsts. Trifari hired famed designer Alfred Philippe who brought experience from Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Costume jewelry played a large part in the company's initial creative direction, which was a perfect fit for the period. The Trifari aesthetic ran parallel to the European trend of costume jewelry that Chanel lead - this, along with the economic strife brought on by WWII, made Trifari the go-to American accessories brand. In addition to whimsical designs and the ability to pay attention to fine detail, Trifari was the first to start the transition from molded glass to Lucite. Trifari created some of the most collectible costume jewelry to this day.
